Starbucks whips up its first Frappuccino creation for Singapore

How does Singapore taste? Like toasted coconut and gula melaka (caramelised palm sugar), going by Starbucks' latest creation.

The coffee giant will release its first drink created for Singapore on Tuesday, launched ahead of the country's 52nd birthday next week.

It's calling the Frappuccino a Shiok-ah-ccino. "Shiok" is local slang for pleasure, often used to describe taste or experiences.

The drink will also launch with a range of desserts incorporating local, peranakan flavours.

These include an ondeh ondeh-style gula melaka cake, made of pandan sponge and coconut flakes; a vanilla sponge cake with pulut hitam (black glutinous rice and coconut milk) cream; and cakes with Ovaltine and Horlicks flavours in them.

The Shiok-ah-ccino will cost $5.82 (S$7.90) in a "tall" size (i.e., the smallest), and will only be available until Sep. 5. So expect lines for the drink at your nearest Starbucks for the next month.
