U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in New York in September.

Trump administration officials were quoted Monday by Axios, an American news website, as expressing hope for a second meeting between the two.

The officials said the Manhattan sit-down would work as a carrot to encourage the North Korean regime to take action to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, as promised at their historic Singapore summit last month.

But the officials said Kim needs to show progress for the U.S. to agree to the second meeting, according to the report.
This comes amid increasing skepticism about Kim's pledge to give up his nuclear arsenal.

While Pyongyang has stopped missile and nuclear weapons tests, some experts say there is no evidence that it is reducing stockpiles or it has stopped production.

On Sunday (local time), Trump said it was "possible" that the denuclearization deal with North Korea would not "work out."

His comment came a day after it was reported that Pyongyang has increased its production of enriched uranium at secret sites.
