Three victims dead in shooting at UPS warehouse in San Francisco

While much of the nation was still recovering from the shock of the Virginia mass shooting at a congressional baseball practice, another gunman opened fire at a UPS warehouse in San Francisco on Wednesday morning, killing three people before fatally shooting himself, according to the San Francisco Police. At least two others were wounded. The shooter and victims have not yet been identified, and police have yet to confirm that the shooter was an employee.

When the police arrived, they confronted the shooter in the building, where he shot himself in the head. According to multiple employee eyewitnesses, the gunman was a UPS employee and used an assault pistol in the attack. Eyewitnesses report that he fired several rounds, beginning at 8:55 a.m..

Officials released an alert at 9:11 a.m. warning residents to avoid the area. When police reached the warehouse, they escorted employees away and closed the area to search for additional weapons and interview eyewitnesses.

The police declared a shelter-in-place order for the area in the immediate aftermath but lifted the order at around 11:30 a.m.

Kyle Peterson, a spokesperson for UPS, commented:

Local law enforcement have control of the facility and are conducting an investigation. The company is cooperating with law enforcement. We cannot provide information as to the identity of persons involved at this time, pending the police investigation.
